The Smart-hose system utilizes a unique and patented design that uses internal valves located in each end fitting. The valves are designed to stay open during normal operating conditions. However, if a catastrophic hose failure event occurs (the end fitting blows-off, the hose gets cut in half or the hose is stretched to an unsafe condition) than the system is designed to shut down the flow in both directions.
The Smart-Hose system can be incorporated in hose diameters from ¼" to 8" ID. Finally, the Smart-Hose system will work with industrial gasses as well as industrial fluids.

At those forces plant plumbing, bulkheads and tank truck hard piping are at risk,” explains Mr. Cardona. The Smart-Hose Break-away is a 360 degree break-away. Designed with rugged shock proof annular seals and a built in bumper, the Smart-hose Break-away works in conjunction with the Smart-Hose safety system. Equipped with schedule 80 316 SS fittings and custom engineered break points the Smart-hose Break-away safety system can offer the end user full flow break-away protection that requires no yearly maintenance. It is designed to meet both the LPG and NH3 industry standard of 5 to 1 burst specifications. Currently available in 2” Male NPT or Female NPT. The Smart-hose Break-away is designed to reduce plant and tank truck hard pipe damage associated with drive away incidents.

It's a fact; hose assemblies represent the weak link in all loading, unloading, transfer operations. Most people do not realize that a 4" ID hose that is operating at 200 psi working pressure generates an end force of 2513 lbs. We all know that end force is defined as the force that travels longitudinally along the hose assembly and is the product of hose ID and working pressure. End force is the energy that is trying to blow the fitting out of the hose.
If that 4" hose assemblies experiences a catastrophic failure (i.e. The fitting blows off, the hose is cut in half or the hose stretches to an unsafe condition during a transfer operation) and the viscosity of the material being pumped is equal to water, than 3455 gallon per minute would flow out of the end of the hose.
Obviously a catastrophic hose failure of this magnitude could create a situation that would lead to huge environmental clean-up costs, EPA fines, property damage, personal injury and even death.
